THE SPIRIT OF AFRICA TROPHY HAS BECOME THE FIRST
AND ONLY 4X4 DRIVING COMPETITION WITH INTERNATIONAL STATUS.
The first international Spirit of Amarok competition took place in Botswana at Kwalata Game Ranch in the Tuli Block during September 2015. Deligates from Germany, Argentina and Australia were in attendance to witness this the most gruelling amateur 4x4 competition in the world. 11 times rally champion, Sarel van der Merwe, set up the most challenging course consisting of 14 speed stages and 14 technical stages. The degree of difficulty, when compared with the Spirit of Africa final, was increased to allow the contestants to prove their worth.
Five teams each from Australia, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa competed in the "ultimate test drive" in a Volkswagen Amarok. The prize for the best team - "4x4 International Spirit of Amarok Champion" This went to Alwyn and Melanie Jordaan of Namibia.
The combined team of South Africa won the nationals with Namibia as runners up and Australia comming in third. All in all it was a great success and we all look forward to next years challenge.
Plans are afoot for next years international, so be sure to enter the elimination rounds which will commence on 27 April 2016 at Zeerust, North West Province. Who knows...you could end up as the new 4x4 Spirit of Amarok Champion!
